Masala Mostest

Mark and Patrick’s collaboration with Julie Southwell (violin) and Shireen Amini (percussion & vocals) led to this recording project, which blends a live, acoustic, folk-vibe with world music sensibilities. Amini is an ethnomusicologist steeped in the musical traditions of Persia, Latin jazz—and Motown. The last track, Madonna’s La Isla Bonita, features a solo performance by Shireen, which applies her world-influence to a classic pop song. Likewise, Southwell’s soaring melodies reflect her musical studies in India. Both of these talented ladies move The Mostest to new places and free us from biases of the western ear.
